Thematic exhibition

For the 6th Edition of the Jewish Film Festival, the JFF office is preparing the exhibition entitled “Macht und Ohnmacht” (“Power and powerlessness”) by the esteemed Japanese artist Seiji Kimoto. Since the exhibition is closely related to the theme of Holocaust and Mr. Kimoto, in his works, speaks of human strength and resistance arising from the human instinct for survival, this exposition will perfectly compliment other segments of the upcoming Festival.

Seiji Kimoto is a Japanese artist who has benn living and working in Germany for decades. Through his work, he speaks about the historical problems- but in a modern way. His sculptures and exhibits are ranked high on the art scene. Through his work, Seiji Kimoto shows a tendency towards expressionism. His sculptures are big in size and compact in shape and have distinctive textures and vibrant colors. His tendency towards surrealist imagery is apparent, but he still remains close to the known image of a man, even through his abstract sculptures.

Seiji Kimoto shows human freedom and captivity. His sculptures are showing torture and abuse in various forms but also how resistance can arise from powerlessness and how people can retain their dignity even in situations of greatest humiliation. The exhibition “Power and powerlessness” consists of ten sculptures and objects that represent the artist’s expression.

The exhibition is planned to be shown in the Karas Gallery from May 14th to May 31st, 2012. The festival office is currently working on securing the budget.
