HASIDIC WOMEN IN ACTION: 93QUEEN IN KINOTEKA CINEMA

09.04.2019.

Set in the Hasidic enclave in Brooklyn, the film 93Queen  follows a group of tenacious Hasidic women who are smashing the patriarchy in their community by creating the first all-female volunteer ambulance corps in New York City.

Although the leaders of the religious community in which they live strongly oppose the launch of a women's ambulance, perceiving such an initiative as an attempt to undermine the traditional division of gender roles, Rachel Freier, the main protagonist of the film, known as Ruchie, takes matters into her hands and helps women to exercise their right to health protection in the form they want, without the presence of men.

This documentary directed by director Paula Eiselt offers a unique view of religious women who internally change the community in which they live.

The film is scheduled for 4 pm in Kinoteka Cinema as a part of the American Corner programme.
