Essay competition on tolerance and/or Holocaust

Jewish film festival Zagreb Association in opening an essay competion on the Holocaust and/or tolerance for schools that participate in the Educational Mornings program in the school year 2015/2016.

The goal of the competition is to make educational Morning more then just a one time experience for the students, but to make them think about the messages they heard and to express themselves in a creative way, thus encouraging them to further educate themselves on the subjects covered.

The essay does not necessarily have to be related to the Educational Mornings program. Students have the freedom to write about anything that represents to them tolerance or the Holocaust. The length of text is limited to 2-4 pages of Word document (Times New Roman font size 12 and 1,5 space), and the deadline for submissions is May 10th 2016 (with the exception for the students attending the Educational Morning in Rijeka, for whom the deadline is May 16th). Essays have to be written on a computer.

The best work will be published on the Festival of Tolerance web page and in the Educational Mornings booklet, and the author’s school will be awarded equipment of their choice (computer, camera, TV...) in the value of 2000 Kuna.

Only works sent from schools that participated in Educational mornings in the school year 2015/2016 will be considered (including the programs that were part of Manfred Bockelmann's "Drawing Against Oblivion").

The students don’t send they works directly but teach school does the first selection and sends up to 3 works to the Association. A panel consisting of the Festival workers and Educational Mornings partners then considers the essays and declares a winner by June 1st 2016. It is recommended that the Association receives unsigned works, and that the school that does preselecting has the author’s name.

Essays can be sent either by e-mailed at or by post at: Festival of Tolerance, Vojnovićeva 15, 10000 Zagreb, marked “Essay on the holocaust and/or tolerance".
