Screening of young filmmakers’ works in Kostajnica

Young filmmakers from Banovina have finished their project of making three short films. The works of film groups members were screened for the first time on Tuesday, January 31st in Elementary School Davorin Trstenjak in Hrvatska Kostajnica.
Pupils from elementary schools Dvor, Katarina Zrinska from Mečenčani and Davorin Trstenjak participated in this project, in realization of which Zagreb Jewish Film Festival and UNHCR Croatia also greatly contributed. Pupils from these schools attended Educational mornings in Zagreb in May, where they listened to Mr. Branko Lustig’s lecture about the importance of tolerance and harmonious coexistence. Exactly that topic – tolerance – became the theme of their films.
Members of the Jewish Film Festival actively participated in all developmental stages of the project, enabling young filmmakers to learn from renowned professionals in their own schools. Mr. Lustig helped pupils to develop screenplays and shooting schedules, Mr. Almir Fakić taught them about film lighting, while Mr. Staša Čelan gave them useful advice on editing. Thanks to the kindness of colleagues from HSM Informatika, young filmmakers had the opportunity to work with the Adobe Premiere CS5.5 program.
Members of the Jewish Film Festival and the UNHCR Croatia attended the premiere screening of films “Ipak” (made by pupils from Elementary School Dvor), “New Page Of Life” (Elementary School Davorin Trstenjak) and “Tolerancija” (Elementary School Katarina Zrinska).
We would like to thank everyone who participated in this project and we proudly announce that these films will be submitted to children’s film festivals.

Seminar on Holocaust

Zagreb Jewish Film Festival representatives attended and actively participated in the seminar called Teaching about the Holocaust and Prevention of Crimes Against Humanity, which took place in Zagreb, hotel Palace and Jasenovac Memorial Site from January 25th to 27th. The seminar was organized by the Education and Teacher Training Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, Jasenovac Memorial Site, Yad Vashem, Le Mémorial de la Shoah and the workgroup for international cooperation in the field of education, remembrance and research about the Holocaust.
On January 27th, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked throughout Europe. This way we remember all the WWII Nazi victims and show commitment to help in prevention of the genocide in the future.

For the fifth year in a row, International Talent Workshop opens its doors to young up and coming filmmakers from all over the world. The competition is open from January 16th to February 24th for directors, editors, cinematographers and sound designers and to March 16th for screenwriters.

Do you want to shoot films under the director’s guidance of some of the most prominent young filmmakers?

Don’t hesitate – the 5th edition of TALENT WORKSHOP is organized just for you! So, give us “high five”, apply and become part of one of two international five-member film teams which will, during the ten days of intensive socializing and educating, eagerly work on the goal of realizing
two short feature films!

The films will be made after the previously chosen screenplays from the
TALENT WORKSHOP COMPETITION FOR SCREENWRITERS,
submitted on the theme
“TOLERANCE”!

Both films will be made in HD quality. Detailed information about the equipment can be found on the TALENT WORKSHOP web pages, in section
“MORE ABOUT WORKSHOP 2012” !

The official language of TALENT WORKSHOP is English,
therefore it is essential that all the participants possess active knowledge of that language!

At the end of the Workshop, the films you make will be screened as a part of the 6th Jewish Film Festival final day official program!

The jury, consisting of three notable film professionals, will
make a decision which of the two films deserves to receive a
SPECIAL PRIZE!

You’re eager to create stories and shape them into interesting screenplays?
You would love to see quality films made after your screenplay?
You dream of becoming an appreciated and famous screenwriter?

If you answered “yes!” to the questions above, you’re in luck
because TALENT WORKSHOP announces COMPETITION FOR SCREENWRITERS for all of you who “have an itch” to write film stories,
even if you actually wouldn’t like to attend the Workshop..!

But if you would like to participate in this Workshop, all you have to do is to point it out in the application form. So, if your work is chosen for
TALENT WORKSHOP, welcome!

The official language of TALENT WORKSHOP is English,
therefore it is essential that all the participants possess active knowledge of that language!

You can send no more than two screenplays for low-budget short feature film.

Each screenplay must be 3 – 5 pages long
and contain no more than 9000 characters with spaces!

The screenplay must be thematically related to this year’s theme of
TALENT WORKSHOP, which is “TOLERANCE”!

Towards 6th Jewish Film Festival

Here we are with the news from the Festival office! In addition to the new web, we are intensively working on all aspects of the upcoming festival. The festival committee has rather hard task – to review more than 250 submitted films of all genres, and according to the subject of the Festival, to choose the most appropriate films for the Film program. We are working on bringing an exceptional Exhibition of the very esteemed artist, Mr. Seiji Kimoto, whose works should be placed in the Karas Gallery in the second half of May 2012. Our Music program, already well known and widely recognized, has confirmed its first performers, whose names will be announced soon! The Online applications for the International Talent Workshop, which every year attracts more and more students and produces top quality short films, will be published on our website in the next few days. At our Educational mornings, the educational program of the Festival recognized and recommended by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports for the outstanding contributions in building a tolerant society, we will have the opportunity and honour to welcome the authorities in the field of Jewish culture and history of the Holocaust, along with Mr. Branko Lustig, our Honorary President and the key person of the Festival.

We look forward to Next Year and the new edition of the Festival – Festival of Tolerance!

JFF won 3rd prize at OUTWARD!

At this year’s presentation of awards for best billboard design OUTWARD, which was launched in year 2000 by a company for public space advertising Outdoor akzent with the goal to inspire and reward the quality and creativity of billboard design, the Jewish Film Festival poster named “Masterpiece” won the third place! This exceptional billboard, that communicates the positioning and the quality of the Jewish Film Festival in the best possible manner, was designed by the McCann Erickson agency.

Extremely content with the outcome of the competition, we would like to congratulate and thank the McCann Erickson agency for their great work!

Visit to film workshop – Dvor

Jewish Film Festival office representatives, Nataša Popović and Sanjin Kaštelan, along with academic cinematographer and Cinema Club “Zagreb” manager, Staša Čelan, visited on November 3, 2011 the Elementary school Dvor, where the editing workshop was held. The workshop was attended by film section members of three elementary schools – Katarina Zrinska from Mečenčani, Davorin Trstenjak from Hrvatska Kostajnica and Dvor. Thanks to generous support from the company HSM Informatika, young filmmakers had the opportunity to work on trial license of Adobe Premiere CS5.5 program, the application of which was explained to the children by Staša Čelan.

We would like to thank the colleagues from HSM Informatika company, film workshop managers, school representatives and UNHCR Croatia representatives as we eagerly look forward to see the upcoming film works.

JFF and UNHCR in Mečenčani!

On Wednesday, September 28, Jewish Film Festival Association led by Mr. Branko Lustig and UNHCR Croatia representative Mr. Terence Pike, along with Dorijan Klasnić and Predrag Milunić, visited the Elementary School Katarina Zrinska in Mečenčani. After the warm introductory speech by Mr. Pike, Mr. Lustig held a lecture to pupils on the topic of tolerance, peace and interreligious dialogue as he spoke about his experiences from notorious concentration camp Auschwitz. At the end of the lecture, Mr. Lustig answered numerous questions and socialised with pupils.

After the short pause, a meeting with film section members of elementary schools Katarina Zrinska from Mečenčani, Davorin Trstenjak from Hrvatska Kostajnica and Dvor followed. As they are to produce their own documentary films on the topic of tolerance, Mr. Lustig and Mr. Almir Fakić, cinematographer and employee of Cinema Club “Zagreb”, gave them technical advice concerning screenplays and production of films.

We would like to thank Ms. Vesna Majdandžić and other teachers from school Katarina Zrinska and employees of schools Dvor and Davorin Trstenjak for their help on the realization of this project.
