Paul Brody, a trumpet player, composer and a Berliner on his own choice, in a flirty way embeds Eastern Jewish tradition into a contemporary context. His band Sadawi consists of musicians from Berlin, Boston and New York, and at the moment, it is one of the most exciting international musical projects. In the manner of imaginative improvisation they merge klezmer with the New Orleans jazz, sounds of trumpet with Bessarabian Jewish dance and eastern European tribal drums, Hebrew folk tunes with impressionistic trance tones and silent prayers with guitar loops. All these puns and influences produce “new Jewish jazz of the 21st century” played by Brody’s quintet Sadawi.
