The Greek call it nostalgia, the unappeased yearning to return- in German “Heimweh”. This documentary tells the story of Margot Friedlander and her life long journey in search for home and identity. For almost 60 years Margot lived a good life in New York. Born as a child of an upper middle class family in Berlin, she immigrated to the United States in 1946 together with her husband Adolf Friedlander. They had survived the Holocaust. But both of their families were brutally murdered. They didn’t want to talk about their pain that they considered to be private, but that also bonded them together. When her husband passed away five years ago, Margot lost the person who had given her strength and a sense of purpose in her life. Seventy eight years old she had to set out to redifine herself and to find once again her own identity as she prepares to return to Berlin.
